explain.ink turns a topic, a script, or a document into a hand-drawn explainer video. This page sets out what you may and may not make with it. It applies to everything you submit and everything the tool generates for you.
The simple version: make explainers, lessons, product walkthroughs, and stories. Do not use explain.ink to make anything illegal, hateful, sexual, deceptive, or aimed at a real person without their consent. If you would not want it shown next to your own name, do not make it here.
What you must not make
You may not use explain.ink to create, or attempt to create, videos that:
- Sexualise anyone, and never a minor. Sexual or explicit content is not allowed. Any sexual content involving minors is reported to the authorities and results in an immediate, permanent ban.
- Impersonate a real person. No putting words in the mouth of a real, named individual, no deepfakes, and nothing that defames or misrepresents a real person or organisation.
- Help someone cause harm. Instructions for weapons, explosives, drugs, malware, hacking, or bypassing security, or anything that promotes hurting people.
- Promote violence or hate. Content that praises or incites violence, terrorism, or mass harm, or that attacks people over race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexuality, disability, or similar.
- Encourage self-harm. Content that promotes suicide, self-injury, or eating disorders.
- Push political or election agendas. Campaign material, targeted political persuasion, or disinformation about elections, candidates, or public health.
- Deceive people. Scams, phishing, fake endorsements, or false medical, legal, or financial claims presented as fact.
- Take someone else's work. Reproducing copyrighted characters, logos, or brands you do not have the right to use.
- Expose private information. Someone's personal data, home address, or contact details shared without their consent.
How we keep this honest
We screen what you submit before a video is made, and we may screen what the tool generates. We can refuse a request, stop a video that is already running, and suspend or remove accounts that break these rules. Serious cases, including anything involving minors, are reported to the appropriate authorities.
Using it fairly
Do not try to get around these rules with clever wording, hidden instructions, or by splitting banned content across several videos. The rules apply to what you are trying to make, not just how you phrase it.
