This policy explains what explain.ink collects, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We keep it plain because the product is plain: you give us a topic, a script, or a document, and we turn it into a hand-drawn explainer video.
In this policy, "explain.ink", "we", "us" and "our" refer to the operator of the explain.ink service, based in the United States. Questions about this policy or your data:
hello@explain.ink.
What we collect
- Your account. The email address you sign up or join the waitlist with, and (if you sign in with Google) your Google account email and name.
- What you submit to make a video. The topic, script, or document you provide, plus any settings you choose (voice, language, style).
- What we generate for you. The script, the scene drawings, the narration audio, and the finished video.
- Payment information. Purchases are processed by our payment provider (see below). We never receive or store your card number.
- Basic technical data. IP address, browser type, and request logs, used to run the service, keep it secure, and prevent abuse.
Who we share your content with, and why
Making a video means passing your input through specialised AI services. We share only what is needed to produce your video, and only with these categories of providers:
| Who receives it | Why | What it receives |
| Third-party AI providers | To write and structure the script | Your topic / script / document text |
| Third-party AI providers | To draw the scenes | Scene descriptions derived from your script |
| A text-to-speech provider | To record the narration | The narration text of each scene |
| Our payment provider (LemonSqueezy), as merchant of record | To process payments | Your email and payment details (handled entirely by them) |
Each provider has its own privacy terms governing the data it receives. We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with anyone for advertising.
We do not train AI on your content
We do not use the topics, scripts, documents, or videos you create to train AI models, ours or anyone else's. Your content is used to make your video and nothing else. Where a processor above offers a no-training option for API traffic, we use it.
How long we keep things
- Your videos and their assets (drawings, audio, the final file) are stored so you can view and download them for as long as your account is open.
- Purchased minutes remain yours and do not expire on cancellation; they carry a 12-month expiry from the date of purchase.
- Account and billing records are kept as long as needed to run the service and meet legal and tax obligations.
- Uploaded documents are used to generate your video and retained with the resulting job; you can delete them with the job.
Cookies
We use only the cookies needed to sign you in and keep your session secure. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Your choices
- Access and export the content in your account.
- Delete individual videos, or your whole account, by asking us at hello@explain.ink.
- Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights (for example under the GDPR or the CCPA) to access, correct, or erase your personal data, and to object to certain processing. Email us and we will honour them.
Children
explain.ink is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date above and, for material changes, tell account holders by email.
