Short answer: The chalkboard style draws every scene in white chalk on a dark board, the way a teacher builds an explanation at the front of a room. It suits lessons, concepts and step-by-step reasoning, because the drawing appears at the same pace as the sentence explaining it.

[voice] Chalkboard is the classroom voice: the drawing arrives at the speed of the sentence that explains it.

[drawing] In the middle of the frame the Earth, a circle about one sixth of the frame wide, with two continents inside it. Five long straight parallel rays enter from the right edge and run across the frame pointing left, passing above and below the Earth. Four Moons sit around the Earth at the top, right, bottom and left of a dashed ring, each about half the Earth's width, and every one of them has its right half filled and its left half left empty, because the light comes from the right. Outside the ring, level with each Moon and joined to it by a short tick, sits a smaller circle showing how that Moon looks from the Earth, and the four differ. The one outside the Moon on the right is an empty outline. The one outside the Moon at the top is filled on its right half only. The one outside the Moon on the left is filled completely. The one outside the Moon at the bottom is filled on its left half only. A thin arrow curves clockwise just outside the dashed ring, showing the direction the Moons travel. Two words are lettered directly beneath the small circles they belong to: NEW beneath the empty outline on the right, FULL beneath the filled circle on the left. There is no other text in the frame. The filled circle on the left is the focal point.
